There is trending news that the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana, (CLOGSAG) has called off its long strike action. The labor Union, CLOGSAG, is a Registered Trade Union and the mouthpiece of workers in the Civil and Local government sector.
Readers can recall that members of CLOGSAG have been on strike for almost three weeks and they were demanding the payment of the ‘Political Neutrality Allowance’ and even said that they would call off the strike as soon as a payment plan for the allowance is concluded. There were several persons that had traveled far and near to patronize the service of these staff only to be told that they cannot be attended to due to the strike action. A good example is that, two weeks ago, TV3 News 360 interviewed persons who did not get service when they visited the Births and Deaths Registry for their birth certificates.
The good news is that the strike has been called off because the government has finally agreed to terms with CLOGSAG and so members will resume work on Monday, May 16, 2022. Many Ghanaians have congratulated all the Executives of CLOGSAG for their resilience and tenacity in fighting for this “all-important allowance”.
On social media, some citizens are hailing the government for its decision to agree with the CLOGSAG and have said, “It is the perfection of the Civil servant that will move the country forward and not the politician”.
Other Ghanaians are however saying that, if the government pays this ‘nonsense allowance’ all public workers must equally be given such allowance too.
In fact, when we interviewed some students at KNUST, one even said that Government must use this opportunity to employ the unemployed graduates and later sack these “nation wreckers” called civil servants. Some are also asking about their unpaid NABCO allowances. Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion and as it is said, Opinions are like “noses ‘ and everyone has one.
