John Mahama Hates Taxes In General That Is Why He Wants To Repeal The E-levy

John Mahama has come under a number of verbal attacks for certain comments he made during his Ghana at crossroads presentation. One of the interesting revelations the former president made was his decision to repeal the E-levy if he comes to power in 2025. According to John Mahama the government is incompetent and has ended up bankrupting the economy and now trying to drain Ghanaians through the electronic tax.

On Good Morning Ghana today, Tuesday, May 10, 2022 Andrew Egyapa Mercer, MP for Sekondi and Deputy Minister reiterated that John Mahama is no good to come back to power because he hates taxes and all Ghanaians have now seen how backward he is by saying he will repeal the levy. Annie Afua Ampofo, the sit in host for Randy Abbey however pointed that John Mahama never said he hated taxes.

She explained that John Mahama only said he will repeal the electronic levy and not all taxes. Egyapa Mercer however indicated that the e-levy is also a tax and so by saying that he will repeal the electronic tax it means that he hated taxes in general. The host didn’t however take this and corrected Hon Mercer that he was misconstruing what John Mahama had said. At that moment Felix Kwakye Ofosu added his voice and queried if campaigning against VAT in 1995 meant that Akufo-Addo hated taxes. “If he did hate taxes, why did he introduce the e-levy?” Felix asked.
