The dreams of two hair stylists at Abelemkpe of traveling to Albania, a European country, to look for a better life, had been dashed, having been swindled between them in cash of Ghs33,000.00 by a man who claimed he could secure travel visas for them.
Vanesa Esinam Sedro and Celestine Kpetsigo have been cutting and styling people’s hair professionally at Abelemkpe, in Accra, and they have been nursing the ambition to travel to Europe to better their economic situation.
Vanesa and Celestine contacted Isaac Asare, a self-style visa contractor, at Ablekuma Curve, and he told them that he could get them visas to travel to Albania at a fee.
Asare charged each of the two hair stylists Ghs50,000.00.
The understanding was that the two women would make part payment of the Ghs50,000.00 and that one month after the part payment had been made, their Albania travel visas would be ready and then the remaining amount cleared.
Having struck the deal with Asare, Vanesa went ahead to give to him cash of Ghs22,800.00 while Celestina on her part, handed over to him an amount of Ghs10,200.00.
Months after taking a total of Ghs33,000.00 from the two hair stylists, Asare could not be found anywhere and the two ladies filed a formal report with the Greater Accra Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Asare has already appeared before an Accra Circuit Court criminally charged with defrauding.
He denied any wrongdoing and the court ordered that he should be held on remand. Asare would be making his next appearance on Monday, May 16, 2022 for proceedings to continue.
Police Inspector Wisdom Alorwu told the court that Vanesa and Celestina identified Asare to the Regional Police CID, who was being held at the Accra Central Police Station on the orders of a court over a similar offence.
