Kwesi Pratt on Good Morning Ghana has expressed his eyesore on what people describe as democracy in the USA, an incident that happened at Sissala West and describes it as a banana republic.
Here are his words:
Slashing people with a cutlass at polling station elections doesn’t speak with democratic credentials. It speaks of unacceptable violence, deformity in our political process, and anarchy.
As for issues with the USA being the best example of democracy and others, I won’t go there.
A country that has built a reputation for discrimination against a race cannot be an example of democracy for me.
Just the pure racism in the USA’s politics is a huge problem. A situation in which armed thugs raid a party’s headquarters and smash the car of the sitting General Secretary is not democratic credentials.
These trends are not restricted to one party and they keep spreading; it leaves me worried. We are slipping into the era of the Tonton Macoute.
There’s one video I saw about Sissala West, this didn’t even happen in the Papa Doc. These are grave aberrations and we need to accept them as they are, and match the banana republic.
If during a polling station election, people video themselves slashing each other with cutlasses; what is that?
