The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that today is the final showdown for the minority’s E-levy case in court.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Wednesday, 4th May 2022, he wrote;
“Good morning, folks.Â
Finally, the day for the E-Levy showdown in the Supreme Court is here.Â
We are ready to fearlessly and uncompromisingly defend and uphold the 1992 Constitution — may God help us.
We deeply appreciate your unflinching solidarity.
What’s your prediction?”
Background of Okudzeto’s Comment
There Minority MPs filed suit on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 following the passage of the E-levy bill by the Majority Caucus on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, despite a walkout by the Minority Caucus.
The three MPs, led by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, want the Supreme Court to declare that the said approval was contrary to law..The two other MPs are Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the MP for North Tongu and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga.
They contend that Parliament did not have the required number of at least half of its members present when the controversial tax policy was approved.
Reactions
Many people have reacted to Okudzeto’s comment as he asked people to predict the outcome of the Supreme Court Case today.
Some people are of the view that the SC may throw the case away.
Others also said the case itself lacks merit and hence they should not expect anything positive.
