Let’s begin with a quote from Margaret Thatcher:
“If you want a thing to be said, ask a man. If you want a thing to be done, ask a woman”.
Question: what makes a woman? Do we have a one-size-fits-all definition?
Madam Theodosia Oko designed the Ghana flag.
Women have made a name for themselves throughout history; from fighting for women’s rights through breaking records to leading nations and multinational corporations.
Florence Nightingale, the first woman to be allowed to serve in the British army.
But in recent times, social media “influencers” are rewriting the script for womanhood, working tirelessly to bring focus to sensitive parts of the woman as the new trend.
This trend is fast gaining grounds in sites such as Instagram and ticktok. Some women, mostly in their twenties, are constantly defining themselves by their physical outlook, particularly the breast and buttocks.
As this gets into the consciousness of people (both men and women), there’s a real danger, society will soon forget about the brainpower and skills of women, instead focusing on the aesthetics.
If this happens, women will suffer in the long run. The hard-fought battles of women for centuries to prove that a woman is worth much more than the kitchen are being eroded by the social media activities of these modern day women.
We live to see how it all puns out.
