Lawyer and KPMG Professor in Accounting at the Fisher School of Accounting, University of Florida Stephen Kwaku Asare widely known as Kwaku Azar has asserted that those who win primaries by paying delegates will govern by stealing from us. He said that poorly run political party systems cannot produce effective government.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, 3rd May 2022, he wrote;
“Nigeriafuo, Electoral Act Repeal and Renactment Law 2021, and Kenyafuo, the Political Parties Primary Bills 2020, are doing something about their broken down political parties’ primary system.
They understand that internal democracy in political parties is essential to a proper functioning democracy at the national level.
On the other hand, Ghanafuo seem with an irreparably broken down political party primary season that is built on a foundation of cocoa season for delegates.
Poorly run political party systems cannot produce effective government. Those who win primaries by paying delegates will govern by stealing from all of us.
Parliament must, as a matter of urgency, do something about internal democracy in political parties as required by article 55 of the Constitution.”
