The controversial E Levy has officially taken effect. Many mobile money subscribers are complaining of the expensive service charges coupled with the unpopular e levy. Some customers went to the extent of emptying their mobile money wallets and deactivating their accounts all in the name of avoiding payment of e levy.
But hope has eventually come as the next government under the John Mahama will abolish the controversial levy. This was announced by a national communications member of the party, Abdul Mamud Kabore on UTV last night. According to the communications officer for Sekyere Afram Plains constituency, the next NDC Government will abolish the nuisance tax within the first 100 days of its administration.
He told host, Agya Kwabena that, the NDC will always stand by Ghanaians and ensure the public interest is put ahead of any personal or political interest.
“Agya Kwabena, you are aware that the matter is in the supreme court as parliament did not have the needed quorum at the time the bill was passed. In addition to this, we have successfully filed and served interlocutory injunction against the implementation of the levy yet, our colleagues who claim to be the masters of the law are going ahead to implement it. It looks as if they are aware that the supreme court will rule once again in their favour. But the point is, even if the court does its own thing, the next NDC Government will cancel the E Levy within the first 100 days of its administration. This is a promise we are giving to Ghanaians.” Kabore spoke in Twi.
It is recalled that the general secretary of the largest opposition party has made similar comments a couple of weeks ago. Speaking in an interview with OB on Okay FM, the seasoned politician said the future NDC Government under John Mahama will abolish e levy.
