The Vice President, his excellency Dr. Muhamadu Bawumiah is one of the few candidates of the Npp in the upcoming presidential election. As a Vice President who has moved around the presidency and has an idea of what it entails, his followers think it’s a good decision to make him the flag bearer and give him the opportunity to context for the presidential seat for the Npp. The new patriotic party might lose the elections if they are not technical and very smart about their choices. The manner in which their greatest opposition, Ndc are coming for them from all angles sends a direct message on what they should be doing by now.
There could be some divisions in the party if things don’t go as planned that’s why the two candidates need to come to a common understanding and goal. In 2007 where Dr. Alan Kyeremanteng, the trade minister contested with the sitting president, there was a heavy and a very intensive competition between them. This led to a second runoff which would determine who the flag bearer would be. Seeing the efforts of Nana Addo for the past years, the minister for trade who was contesting for the position stepped down and threw his support behind Nana Addo.
This is the kind of agenda that many people are advising Bawumiah to push. For the benefit of the party and a higher percentage or chance for the Npp to win their seat once again or give the Ndc the competition of a lifetime, they feel it’s best if Bawumiah throws his support behind him. If he puts himself in this position, then it’ll mean that he might be a running mate once again. The current state of the government which has the image of the Vice President and the president soaked in lambast and criticism, will he pose as a good running mate if he should throw his weight behind Alan? If not, will he be accepted if he is chosen or elected to lead the Npp into victory?
