Why Is There Too Much Inequalities In The Salary Of Ghanaian Workers?

Recently, Dr. Kwabena Nyarko Otoo of Trade Union Congress made some revelations. “There are CEOS of SOES taking rent allowance of about GHS 18,000, to GHS 25,000 a month, not a year”.

Based on the above this article seeks to ask questions on why there is too much inequality in the salaries of Ghanaian workers.

1. All workers wear clothes, but some workers are paid clothing allowance as much as Ghc10,000 while others are not even given a pesewa. The question is why is it that way?

2. All workers enjoy entertainment, but some workers are paid entertainment allowance as much as Ghc2,000 a month but others do not. recieve even a dime. This beg for the question why?

3. All workers use either private vehicles or public vehicles to their worker places, but some workers are paid transport allowance While others are not. Why is it so?

4. All workers sleep in accommodations, but some are paid accommodation allowance While others are not. Is it just like George Orwell’s Animal Farm? Perhaps all animals are equal but some are equally important than others.

5. Why is it that all workers are faced with some inconvenience, but some are paid inconvenience allowance While others are not.

6. All workers are faced with one risk or the other, but some are paid risk allowance While others are not. The question is why?

7. Above all, Some of those who are earn fat salaries do not:i

.i. Buy Food, they are supplied._

ii. Buy Fuel, they are given fuel coupons.

iii. Pay for accommodation, yet are paid accommodation allowance.

8. However, those who are paid with peanut as salary:

i. Buy their own food

ii. Pay for their own fuel or transportation

iii. Pay for their own accommodation, yet they do not enjoy any allowance.

What Is The Reason For This Inequalities In Salaries?

Can we say that it is because some people work are so difficult than others and so they must earn triple or quadruple of what they others earn?

Or can we say it that special positions deserve special allowances? If so, why not at least bridge the gap for the low income earners to also enjoy few of these allowances?

Don’t we all citizens deserve better?
