Haruna Iddrisu and Mahama Have Started Something Very ‘Dangerous’ – Osei Kyei Mensah Reveals

Early this month, the Minority under the auspices of 3 NDC MPs filed a motion at the Supreme Court to stop the implementation of the E-levy. The MPs include Mahama Ayariga, Haruna Iddrisu and Okudzeto Ablakwa President Akufo-Addo last month assented to the E-levy and the new tax is supposed to start on May 1. The passage of the electronic bill was opposed by the Minority who feel the Majority in Parliament didn’t have the numbers to get the levy passed.

The Majority have responded to the motion filed by the Supreme Court. According to Osei Kyei Mensah, the case is already dead on arrival and nothing good can come out of it. interestingly, Osei Kyei, the Majority leader questioned why Minority are going to the Supreme Court when they could have filed a motion in Parliament rather. He noted that Parliament is a master of her own and so the Minority should have first started the process in parliament.

Osei Kyei said this is a dangerous precedent because the Minority are allowing another institution to interfere in the process and procedures of Parliament. He called on the Minority to provide proof for their reliefs they are seeking in Parliament. In conclusion he noted that this was an exercise in futility.
