Former President John Dramani Mahama is in the news recently as the current brouhaha in the Colleges of Education throughout the country has experienced an upsurge in the last few days and has actually become one the of the topical stories in the country today.
The truth surrounding this was the fact that teacher trainees in the various colleges of education in the country cannot afford three square meals daily. That is, they are now served meals two times a day instead of the usual three times. This has had serious implications on causative matters surrounding the issue the restoration of the teacher and nurse trainees allowances even after they have been converted into full tertiary institutions by the current government.
This has caused Ghanaians to refer the government back to what the then President John Dramani Mahama said when they [the NPP] promised the Ghanaian people that they will restore the students allowances and scrap the students’ loan scheme introduced by the then NDC government.
This was John Mahama’s response to Akufo-Addo and Bawumia at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in September 2016.
“For the purposes of partisan politics, you have your political opponent come and say when we come back, will restore trainee allowances to colleges of education. For me, it is better to lose the election on principle than to win on falsehoods.”
The statement above by Former President John Mahama proves true today.
Did he actually foresee the future as it stands today?
