Karim Benzema was at it again saving the blushes of Los Blancos at the Estadio Ramon Sánchez Pizjuan yesterday. The victory for Madrid has opened a 15 point gap over Sevilla on the league table. Sevilla raced into a 2 goal lead in the first half courtesy Ivan Rakitic and Erik Lamela. Madrid struggled to find their rhythm in the opening half of the match. They resumed the second half with much purpose. Rodrygo pulled a goal back after the restart with a sublime finish. VinÃcius Junior thought he had scored the equaliser only for the goal to be ruled out as a result of a supposed handball by VinÃcius. They were not to be denied few minutes later when Nacho scored their second goal to draw them level.
The icing on the cake happened in the second minute of extra time when the evergreen Benzema popped up with the winning goal. They are now 15 points ahead of Barcelona having played 2 more games than their rivals. It would take a capitulation of epic proportions for Madrid to slip up now. The title is almost certainly theirs now.
