Over 7000 online petitioners with the Concerned Mobile Network Subscribers (CMNS) have called on all Ghanaians to join in their campaign to enforce productivity within the re-registration of SIM Cards in Ghana.
According to the CMNS and petitioners, there are no specific laws that make it possible for the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to embark on a Sim Card re-registration exercise.
Apart from the legalities of the exercise, they demand that the National Communications Authority (NCA) would appropriately come up with a Framework for the sim re-registration. Thus, providing a framework for re-registration makes it possible for all Mobile Network Operators to follow due procedure during re-registration.
From the group of petitioners and concerned group, they indicate that the lack of a productive framework has made the procedure cumbersome. Individuals form long queues in order to get their sim card re-registered. This wastes a lot of valuable time that could significantly affect the economic situation of the country. Thus, affecting the small and medium-size organizations, since it is the sector with more employed citizens.
It is therefore important for NCA to provide a framework that is productive and healthy to all citizens of the country.
