Selorm Branttie, Vice President at Imani Center for Policy & Education who doubles as Global Strategy Director at mPedigree Network, has adviced that the National Identification Authority (NIA) not to support all the ultimatums given as a deadline for SIM registration or No Ghana Card no Bank Transactions. He raised concern on why the aged people of 70 years and above should be in long queue for registration of Ghana card.
In a post on his official Facebook page on Friday, January 21st 2022 he wrote;
“Dear NIA,
Until you have reached coverage of 80% of delivered cards to at least 17 million Ghanaians, do not support all these ultimatums!
We know you want to do your cost recover, but why should our 70+ parents who aren’t in the best of physical shape travel and queue for hours for shege reasons?
Can’t we be considerate about the fact that not everyone lives in Accra or Kumasi and trips to these places and the conditions there are not the best in these times?”
His comment comes after people without Ghana Card are trying desperately to get it. This long queues has increased since people need the Ghana card for SIM registration which is purported to end in March.
Also Bank of Ghana has issued an ultimatum that from July 2022, that the Ghana Card will be required for all transactions. This has increase the pressure on NIA as people without Ghana Card flood in thier numbers to get one.
