Matumbo Is One Of The Common Food In Kenya, See Its English Name

Matumbo is a swahili word which in this context loosely translates to innards. The western world refers to matumbo as tripe or offal.

It is the meat that comes from the stomach of a cow, making it an organ meat. It is cheaper than muscle meats and very nutritious.

Matumbo is very hearty stew with a mixture of organs such as intestines and stomachs. It is usually combined with tomato-based soup.

There is a common misconception that matumbo does not have nutritional value but we are sorely mistaken.

There are so many reasons to add the humble matumbo to your diet and you can check them out below:

1.Rich in Protein

Matumbo contains all the nine essential amino acids your body needs to do things like build muscle and regulate immune function.

2.An Excellent Source of Vitamins and Minerals

Tripe packs an impressive amount of nutrients, selenium, zinc and vitamin B12.

A 5-ounce (140-gram) serving of cooked beef tripe delivers 25% of the RDI for selenium and more than 15% of the RDI for both vitamin B12 and zinc.
