A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team Beatrice Annan has said that, under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo’ s administration, Ghana is suffering from two pandemics. According to the young lawyer, Ghana is suffering from Corruption pandemic in addition to covid- 19.
She made this statement on Metro TV on Tuesday monitored by CitizenOne.
The lady said Covid 19 has saved the NPP more than it affected Ghanaians. She said all the governmental interventions that we saw were opportunities to loot the state coffers. Ms Beatrice Annan added that in the year 2020 alone, an amount of GHC 12. 8b was misppropriated in the name of managing the pandemic.
” For me COVID- 19, looking back brought us two pandemics. The health pandemic and for us in Ghana it brought corruption pandemic as well. For the first time and I dare say in the history of the fourth republic, you have 12. 8 billion cedis as being misappropriated under the guise of COVID- 19. That could had saved a life of a poor mother who went into labour who but for the absence of bed would have been with us today but had to lose her life. Anytime the discussion of COVID- 19 comes up, it comes with so much pain because the people we put into office saw this pandemic as business to make profit” , she stated.
According to her, the president deceived Ghanaians with the promise to protect the public purse. She believes the purse is currently hiding in the pockets of appointees of the President whiles the ordinary citizen is suffering to make ends meet.
” This President said I will protect the public purse, Annie today as we speak the purse is missing. Unless you find them in the pockets of people. The purse is missing, ” she said.
She was sure the 2021 Auditor General report will reveal more damning scandals than the 2020 report.
During his investiture, President Akufo Addo promised to protect the public purse by insisting on value for money. He said he will use Anas’ principle to fight corruption head- on.
