Earlier on this morning, a grisly road accident occured on the busy Bungoma to Kakamega highway at a place known as Musembe where everyone aboard the ill-fated matatu lost their lives.

The driver of the matatu was unable to avoid ramming into a stationary truck that had stalled in the middle of the highway leaving eight dead on the spot.
A traffic police officer who responded to the scene of the accident gave gory details of how almost everyone aboard the matatu had been decapitated by the impact.
This afternoon, it has emerged that a senior government official had been aboard the matatu that killed everyone this morning.
The Senior Assistant Director at the National Youth Service Headquarters in Nairobi was among the victims of the crash.
The lady was among the victims who died on the spot at Musembe as Kenyans were left shocked by the accident that happened a few hours into the new year.
She has been mourned as a dedicated servant of the public in her capacity as the Senior Assistant Director at NYS.
