Father Accused of Killing 9-Month-Old Daughter by Feeding Her Acid

Ghana has been left in shock and mourning following the arrest of a man, identified as Kadiri, for allegedly ending the life of his 9-month-old daughter by feeding her acid. The heartbreaking incident has stirred national outrage and reignited debates about domestic violence, mental health, and child protection.

According to court documents and family accounts, the tragedy began with a troubled relationship between Kadiri and a young woman, Doris Amatey. The two reportedly began dating in 2020, but their relationship quickly turned volatile after Doris became pregnant just three months in.

Upon learning about the pregnancy, Kadiri allegedly pressured Doris to terminate it. When she refused, he claimed to have arranged an abortion through a contact at Tema General Hospital — a claim which turned out to be false. Despite Doris’ determination to keep the child, Kadiri reportedly grew distant, though he contributed financially to her antenatal care.

The child, a baby girl, was born healthy and lived with her mother. However, court reports reveal that on a recent visit, Kadiri took the infant under the pretense of bonding. During this visit, he allegedly committed the horrifying act of feeding the child a corrosive substance — believed to be acid — leading to her death.

The case is currently before the court, and Kadiri has been remanded into police custody pending further investigation. Authorities are awaiting the results of a full autopsy and toxicology report to support the charges of murder.

Family members and neighbors have been left devastated, with many calling for the harshest punishment possible. “What kind of father does this?” one grieving relative asked. “She was an innocent baby — she deserved love, not cruelty.”

Child rights advocates and legal experts have urged swift justice while calling for stronger social protection systems for women and children in vulnerable situations.
