Agribusiness can address youth unemployment

Accra, Dec. 16, GNA – Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency, has called on the youth to take up agribusiness to enhance their lots.

She said agribusiness had been a successful module that created jobs and source of economic for millions of people over the years and encourage the youth to take it up with technological innovations.
The MP said this during the beginning of a three-day training of 150 young men and women in rabbit and snail rearing and mushroom growing, under her initiative “National Agricultural Capacity Building & Business Setup Roadshow” in collaboration with Agrihouse Foundation.
Dr Agyemang Rawlings said, “The issues of solving unemployment is about making sure people have the power to control their destiny and that’s what we are doing.”
The MP said the participants would be trained on record keeping so that they could document the operations to track the daily activities, adding, they had put in place a monitoring team to support them.
With the support from Agrihouse and other partners, available market had been assured the participants.
Sharing his experience, Mr James Boateng, 2018 National Best Farmer, told the participants farming was business and not for failures or hungry people.
He admonished them to have a business plan and adopt appropriate technologies.
Madam Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, Executive Director, Agrihouse Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency that the training covered the whole value chain; from feeding and nutrition, health, record keeping, business development to processing and packaging.
She said the training would be extended to other regions soon.
The GNA was told over Ghc 160,000 was invested in the project, with the trainees expected to take away rabbits, mushroom seeds, and snails for the start of their businesses.
