Comments emanating from the internet especially via social media platforms pertaining to the recent arrest and detention of the ace journalist working with Media General Group, Onua FM and Onua TV, Blessed Godsbrain Smart popularly known as Captain smart, in police custody indicates that Ghanaians are fed up with issues of journalists being intimidated for their bold and fearless journalism in the country.

Outspoken Journalist, Captain smart, was arrested and detained in Police custody yesterday, Thursday December 2 by the National Security operatives at home and later handed over to the Nima Division of the Ghana Police Service for the alleged offence of offensive utterances unsavoury comments he made that they believed is a threat to Ghana’s peace and security.

According to Captain Smart, recent development in the Parliament House only evidenced the inability of our representatives in the house to rightly perform the duties they were assigned and so he urges the Ghana Armed Forces to stand up to task and fight for the greater good of the country.

However, in a statement released by Media General later on the same Thursday after Capitain Smart was arrested by the security officers, they stated that the National security Council and the Ghana Police Service misinterpreted the statement made by their journalist on Onua Maakye, a morning show on the television channel and that it doesn’t amount to any threat to peace and security and hence does not warrant any form of arrest.

Ghanaians on social media platforms also reacted in agreement with the press statement released by Media General. According to the comments made by most people, the long and short message they are putting across is that ‘enough is enough’. Journalist under the presidency of President Nana Akufo-Addo must be allowed to execute their professional duties.

Captain Smart was working with Angel Broadcasting Companies when he was suspended over issues relating to comments he made against government officials. He was later employed by Media General but this time round his employers stood up to his defense and was released in one peace.
