Oct. 5 (UPI) — A Maryland man is celebrating his second encounter with lottery luck after winning a $100,000 prize one year after collecting a $1 million jackpot.

The 63-year-old Lexington Park man told Maryland Lottery officials he had originally intended to buy a $20 scratch-off ticket when he visited the Rod ‘N Reel store in Lexington Park, but the clerk convinced him to try his luck with a $30 $100,000 Extreme Cash scratch-off.

“The cashier told me that I should buy it because it was the last one and he was about to put up a new roll of tickets,” the player recalled. “He said if I don’t get it, he’ll give it to the next guy, so I took my chances and bought it.”

The man scratched the ticket off in the store and revealed a $100,000 prize.

“I told the cashier what I won and he said, ‘You lie, you lie,'” the winner said. “Then, I scanned the ticket again so he could see I really won.”

The man previously visited lottery headquarters in September 2020 when he won a $1 million jackpot from a Lucky 777 scratch-off ticket.

The winner said his latest jackpot will be put into savings for his grandchildren.
