Sept. 21 (UPI) — Marine rescuers in Texas rushed into action to help a dolphin found stranded in shallow waters by kayakers.

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network said kayakers spotted the dolphin stranded in shallow waters at Lighthouse Lakes, near Port Aransis.

Volunteers enlisted the help of several groups, including SeaWorld San Antonio, the Texas State Aquarium, the Amos Rehabilitation Keep-ARK at UT Marine Science Institute, Sea Tow, Sea Tow Corpus Christi and Texas Gulf Duck Hunting.

“We made sure we had everything we needed to do it safely for the animal and the people,” Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network Executive Director Heidi Whitehead told KIII-TV.

“But we knew it was at utmost importance we got out there as quickly as possible and get that dolphin rescued.”

The dolphin was returned safely to deeper waters.
