Sept. 16 (UPI) — “Fight Song” singer Rachel Platten is a mom of two.
The 40-year-old recording artists welcomed her second child, daughter Sophie Jo, with her husband, Kevin Lazan, last week.
Platten shared the news Wednesday on Instagram alongside photos of herself with her baby girl. Platten said she gave birth at home after more than two days of “grueling” labor.
“Introducing Sophie Jo Lazan. Born 9/9/21 at home in a water birth after 2.5 grueling days of labor,” Platten captioned the post. “When I thought I couldn’t take anymore, this amazing, wise little one kept whispering to me ‘we can do this mama, we can do this.’ So i kept going one contraction at a time. I feel like a warrior and will NEVER doubt my strength again.”
“Thank you Sophie for showing me what I am made of and for completing our family,” she said. “And Thank YOU all so much for your love and support and for allowing me the privacy these last couple of months to just be with my family and prepare for this new life. Sending you all the coziest new baby snuggles.”
Married at First Sight alum Jamie Otis, singer Jewel and Paralympian Amy Purdy were among those to congratulate Platten in the comments.
“SO precious! congratulations,” Otis wrote.
“Wow!!! Congrats!!!! You are a hero!!” Jewel added.
“Yay!!!! Rachel she’s beautiful I’m so happy for you!! You are a warrior!! Love you!” Purdy said.
Platten and Lazan married in July 2010 and also have a two-year-old daughter, Violet Skye. Platten announced in April that she was expecting her second child.
“Here’s the other half of what I’ve been creating this year. Baby #2 coming in hot. This was a hard secret to keep,” she wrote on Instagram.
Platten is best known for the 2015 single “Fight Song.” She released her fourth studio album, Waves, in 2017.
