Founder and leader of the Glorious Word and Power Ministry, Isaac Owusu Bempah
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Justice Joe Appiah says the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Reverend Isaac Owusu Bempah will learn his lessons after being released from police custody.
Rev Owusu Bempah and four others, Mensah Ofori, Michael Boateng, Frederick Ohene and Nathaniel Agyekum were arrested for storming the residence of Nana Agradaa, in real life, Patricia Oduro Koranteng and threatening her.
Owusu Bempah and his ‘boys’ pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them for threatening to kill Agradaa.
On Monday, September 13, 2021, the Pastor and his men were denied bail by a Circuit Court in Accra.
They were charged with offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, the threat of death, and assault of office public officers.
They were remanded to police custody to reappear on Monday, September 20, 2021 to allow the police more time to carry out further investigation.
However, the Pastor fell sick at some point and was sent to the Police Hospital, after which he went back into custody.
But on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021, Lawyer Gary Nimako was able to secure a bail in the sum of GHC200,000 with two sureties for Owusu Bempah.
Speaking on Atinka TV’s morning show, Ghana Nie with Eourba Gyasi Simpremu, the Former MP questioned why Owusu Bempah went to Agradaa’s house to threaten her.
According to him, although Owusu Bempah is a good friend of his and the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, he did not agree with him on his action.
“We all know that you paid some of the people Agradaa scammed. But why did you go to her house to attack her? Why do you allow yourself to be used? A whole prophet, you go to Agradaa’s house to threaten her? it does not make sense,” he said.
Mr. Justice Joe Appiah said he would advise Owusu Bempah on what to do and what not to do moving forward, but before then, he urged Owusu Bempah not to respond to people who insult him on social media.
He also denied allegations that the Prophet ordered his ‘boys’ to attack the police, despite confirming that they fired guns.
Meanwhile, Mr. Justice Joe Appiah also lambasted the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare for allegedly ordering his men to handcuff the man of God even when he was sick and escorted to the Police hospital.
He said although the Police should work with the law, they shouldn’t have gone overboard because there was no way the Prophet would have escaped.
“They said Dampare ordered his men to go and carry Owusu Bempah in handcuff to the hospital when he was sick. Even Ataa Ayi was not laid on his bed like that when he was sick in prison. This is what they did to Owusu Bempah, it is wrong. The law is there but if you overstep the law, it does not make sense. Owusu Bempah will not run away, meanwhile, there was police escort. So, why did you handcuff him. It is very sad, he could have died.”
For those asking why the President did not intervene on behalf of the Prophet when he was arrested, the former MP said the matter did not concern the President and therefore people should not blame him and the Vice President.
