THE MUCH-talked about Suame Interchange road project in Kumasi, will be completed before the end of 2024, it has been announced.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, giving the firm assurance, said the government is determined to solve the traffic problem there once and for all.

“The sod-cutting ceremony for the Suame Interchange project will take place either before the end of 2021 or the first quarter of 2022,” he said, adding that “it is a four tier road project like the Pokuase Interchange so it has the potential of easing traffic flow and boosting economic activities.”

Aside the Suame Interchange project, he disclosed that four additional new interchange projects earmarked for Kumasi in particular, are pending, saying “the other four interchange projects that are pending, would be constructed at Santase, Ahodwo and Bekwai roundabouts as well as Oforikrom.”

The Ashanti Regional Minister said the Bekwai Roundabout Interchange project “is part of the Sofoline Interchange project, which is currently ongoing.”

He said the contractor in charge of the Sofoline Interchange project, has been told to concentrate on the Tanoso to Abuakwa section before returning to Bekwai Interchange project.

“We are all aware of the perennial vehicular traffic problem that the people face virtually on a daily basis from the Tanoso section to Abuakwa. We have therefore, asked the contractor to work and clear the traffic problem from Tanoso to Abuakwa first to ease the burden on the road users before tackling the Bekwai Roundabout project,” he said.
