The association is in support of the government’s one teacher one laptop initiative
The Ghana National Council for Private Schools (GNACOPS) has described the government’s one-teacher one laptop project as an honorable initiative.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, September 3, 2021, launched this project to aid teachers in the facilitation of teaching and learning.
Speaking to UniversNews, Head of the Human Resource Department for GNACOPS, Prince Kwaku Entsi commended the government for taking teachers into consideration.
“The new reforms in our education is a good idea. There’s the need for government to supply us with laptops because we have digital literacy as part of the new reforms, where the teachers educate the kids online by taking them through activities in order to equip them to become a whole product after school to match up with the standards of the group”.
However, he mentioned that private schools are folding up due to financial difficulties as a result of the high taxes charged by several educational agencies.
“If the next regime comes and crosschecks the interests of private and public education, it’ll help. All these lead to the collapse of private educational institutions. As it stands, a number of private schools are folding up because of some financial difficulties they’re going through. GRA, internal Revenue, EPA and even GES visit these schools to take charges”.
Mr. Entsi then emphasized the need for government to commit to the training of basic school children to be more conversant with online studies.
“If the constitution has given to people the right to support the training of our children in education, then it’s prudent for the government to also support it. So there’s no way private schools will request from the government anything ask yourself this, is the government itself sufficiently supplying its sector?, not to talk of supplying resources to private educational institutions”.
