Multiple award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician, Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong known in as ‘Great Ampong’ has urged the government to restructure the focus of Ghanaian education, MyNewsGh.com reports.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Hammer Nti of the popular ‘Hammer Time’ entertainment program fame monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Ampong noted that, the practice of Ghanaian students learning ‘old folklore’ and theories about ancient events which have no direct practicality and benefit to today’s society is the major cause of the surge in unemployment cases in the country.
He urged that the focus of Ghanaian education should be tailored more on technical and vocational structures rather than on theories.
“Hammer, Let me throw this bomb. I always observe that anytime we resume school, our children grow lean but when they come on vacation, you can see the joy in them and how fine and healthy they grow.
It’s like there’s too much stress on them from what they’ve been learning in school.
I’m not saying it’s bad but it is highly irrelevant teaching and examining them on theories like Don Diogo de Azambuja and who discovered Africa and all those things, how is this relevant to today’s society in solving issues and the overall development of the country?
We should be more focused on art, technical and vocational structures rather than these theories so if you identify that a kid is a genius at inventing, for instance, straight away you send him to Apostle Kwadwo Sarfo Kantanka school to develop his strength and get a genius engineer out of him.
Same for arts and other talents that we can groom to become national assets and not these theories which give us unemployed graduate who does not know what to do with the course and knowledge they’ve acquired to translate into job avenues and creations.”
“Hammer, look at this Olympics, almost all the countries that won gold were done by black individuals, you see, it means God has given the black man special gifts.
Let’s appreciate this and work on it. The government must listen because the future of job creation, the future of this country is in technical and vocational studies rather than theoretical education.” He stated on Kumasi-based Pure FM with host, Hammer Nti.
