Watch: ‘Many Saints of Newark’ trailer explores Tony Soprano’s past

Sept. 8 (UPI) — A young Tony Soprano is influenced by his crime boss uncle Dickie Moltisanti in the new trailer for upcoming Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark.

Tony (Michael Gandolfini) idolizes his uncle (Alessandro Nivola), who is a ruthless crime boss in the clip released on Wednesday.

Dickie wants to set a good example for his nephew as the young Tony gets kicked out of school and starts committing his own crimes.

Dickie continues to build his criminal empire and visits Aldo Moltisanti (Ray Liotta) in jail for advice.

The Many Saints of Newark is coming to theaters and HBO Max on Oct. 1. Alan Taylor is directing, with Sopranos creator David Chase producing.

Co-stars include Leslie Odom Jr., Jon Bernthal, Corey Stoll, Billy Magnussen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro and Vera Farmiga.

Michael Gandolfini is the son of late actor James Gandolfini, who originally portrayed Tony Soprano on HBO’s The Sopranos. The drama ran for six seasons from 1999 to 2007.
