A member of the governing New Patriotic Party has called on former President John Dramani Mahama to refund his 2021 salary increment and equally freeze the same for this year.

This comes at the back of news of the President refunding amounts received in salary increment of 2021 back to chest.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo earlier this week refunded GH¢237,974, being increment on his emoluments for the period January to August this year, to the Pensions and Salaries Accounts of the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD).

Mr Jamaludeen A. Abdullah who also serves as an assistant to the Sports Minister made this appeal on The Prime Morning Show on Joy Prime. He commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for taking into consideration the impact Covid-19 has had on the country and refunding his salary increment for 2021.

Mr Jamaludeen called on former President Mahama to as well order his wife, his four aides, including Joyce Bawa Mogtari and Felix Kwakye Ofosu to equally freeze their salary increment for the year 2021 and return the 2021 increment to the chest.

During this year’s May Day celebration, President Akufo-Addo in his speech said, “I have taken the decision to freeze salary increment for this year, 2021, for myself as President, the Vice-President, ministers, deputy ministers and all appointees of the Executive.”

The President indicated the move was his government’s small contribution to help the country recover from the pandemic’s ravages and decrease the damage to the public revenue.

On the “Do or Die” comment by the former President, Mr Jamaludeen called it distasteful and he believes the comments expose the greed and desperation of the former President. “A man who has been an Assemblyman, MP, Deputy Minister, Minister, Vice President, President and former President shouldn’t be making such distasteful utterances.”

He also then said called on John Mahama to learn from his colleagues former President within Africa and behave like a statesman.
