Ghana defender Rashid Sumalia believes the Black Stars can only earn their trophy drought with a collective effort.

The Black Stars have failed to win a major silverware since 1982 despite coming close to ending the trophy drought in the last decade, 2010 Angola losing to Egypt in the finals and in 2015 Equatorial Guinea- Gabon as the Stars lost to Ivory Coast on penalty shootout.

Speaking to Sylvester Ntim of Bryt FM in Koforidua, the former Asante Kotoko defender insisted winning the AFCON is not down to individuals but rather a collective work.

“Winning the AFCON is a collective work, we should all come together as one nation because the players alone cannot do it. They will need the support and prayers of Ghanaians; management must also do their work well before they can succeed”

“I believe if we are able to do all these, we can win the AFCON because we have the men. Everyone knows Ghana and what we can do, so I believe when we do things right, with the support and everything of course we can lift the title”

“There is time for everything and win good preparation and everything we can win the AFCON title,” he said.

Rashid Sumaila is currently a free agent after leaving Kuwaiti side Al Qadsia after the expiration of his contract.
