Black Stars head coach Charles Akonnor says he does not know if the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) or the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is handling the Covid situation at hand very well following the absence of some players ahead of the South Africa encounter.

The Bafana Bafana will host the Black Stars in matchday 2 of the qualifiers at the FnB stadium on Monday.

Ghana are on top of Group G after beating Ethiopia in the opener, with South Africa and Zimbabwe having a point each due to their stalemate last Friday.

Charles Kwabla Akonnor traveled with a 26-man squad for the trip leaving out the players from England and Germany who could not join the team.

The team traveled without the English and German-based nationals because South Africa is placed on the COVID-19 red list of the aforementioned countries since they will have to isolate for 10 days when they return to their respective clubs.

The players left out of the squad include Daniel Amartey, Jordan Ayew, Jeffrey Schlupp, Andy Yiadom, Baba Rahman, Braydon Manu and Daniel Kofi Kyereh.

However, according to Akonnor he does not know if FIFA or CAF is handling Covid situation well over club’s decision not to release their players for matches that would be played in Covid-19 red-listed countries.

Speaking ahead of the South Africa clash, Akonnor said, “Covid issue has been a problem not just me but for every coach. Tomorrow you are coming in, you have a plan at the end of the day you know what you doing and the next time a player has Covid’

“And I don’t know if FIFA or CAF is handling this situation very well because one may ask if we cannot bring our players here can’t we play somewhere else and so there is so many questions to answer and is not making us comfortable, it is so difficult”

“You come under severe pressure and in our country we have to win and this Covid issue is a major and I don’t know if FIFA or CAF is handling the situation very well” he added.
