Defender Jonathan Mensah will return to Ghana’s starting line-up on Monday, 6 September 2021, to face South Africa in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier according to reports.

The Columbus Crew captain is the like-for-like replacement for Daniel Amartey who has been recalled by his English Premier League side Leicester City.

Mensah is one of the in-form Ghana centre backs abroad this season after scoring two MLS goals in 21 appearances.

He will partner Alexander Djiku at the back as the Black Stars chase a second win after the opening 1-0 win over Ethiopia at home last Friday.

The Black Stars will try to return to the global tournament when the tournament takes place in the Asian country of Qatar next year.

CK Akonnor’s team will travel to South Africa to play on matchday two in Johannesburg on Monday in their attempt to qualify for their fourth World Cup appearance.
