Dropouts operating tricycles in Cape Coast sent back to school by MP

Hundreds of boys within the Cape Coast Metropolis who dropped out of school and had taken interest in operating tricycles have been sent back to school by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, Mr. Kweku George Ricketts-Hagan.

These young boys, mostly between the ages of 14 and 20 years as a result of the small income they generate from tricycle operations, dropped out of school which has become a major worry to the lawmaker who vowed and dedicated some funds to send back to school.

“We don’t want our kids who are not up to the age of driving or riding tricycles to be engaged in these acts. We cannot have an excuse that they don’t have a job to do. They should not be working in the first place but rather be in school”, the MP disclosed.

Mr. Ricketts Hagan revealed this at the stakeholders’ meeting organized by the Oguaa Traditional Council and financed by him to find a lasting solution to the indiscipline in the area.

“We will enforce laws to make sure that we will get school dropouts now tricycle riders back to school because even in our constitution we must get every child of school-going age to be in school” Mr. Ricketts Hagan added.

According to the MP, plans are underway to team up with Oguaa Traditional Council to organize the biggest seminar for over 1,000 tricycle riders in Cape Coast Metropolis since they flout traffic regulations with impunity and caused so much inconvenience on the roads.

Consequently, he appealed to the police and other stakeholders including Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to supervise and give riders proper education on road signs and traffic regulation.

The Paramount Chief of Oguaa Traditional Council, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II bemoaned the spate at which residents within the city died as a result of the use of tricycles.
