Aug. 20 (UPI) — Social content platform OnlyFans, which is popular among creators of adult content, says that beginning in a couple months sexually explicit images and videos will be banned from the site.

Created in 2016, OnlyFans markets itself as a platform for content created by photographers, musicians and other artists. Creators can offer their content at no charge or on a subscription basis. The service in recent years has become popular among creators of adult content.

The ban will take effect in October.

Thursday, the company said it’s implementing the policy at the request of “banking partners” and other providers.

The platform will continue to allow content that includes nudity, as long as it complies with the terms of the new policy. The existing terms bar content that features violence and rape and promotion of escort services, sex trafficking or prostitution.

Axios reported that the company is searching for a “strategic partner” and has struggled to find investors.

Based in London, OnlyFans claims more than 150 million registered users and says it pays out about $5 billion to its creators each year.
