Not long ago, a former news anchor of Metro TV, Ignatius Annor announced publicly that he is gay. He said that he has been keeping his sexuality a secret for years due to stigmatization.

Speaking with JoyNews in a video call interview, Ignatius said that he was afraid of confessing his sexuality especially with his kind of profession but now, he is bold enough to say he is gay.

He further apologized to the LGBT community for his inability to support them in the past.

In reaction to that, Ama K Abrebrese believes that no one has the right to judge these people. She revealed in a Facebook post that she needs more understanding as to why the LGBT community is fighting for their rights.

She wrote;

I cannot pretend I know the fear that homosexuals and lesbians living in Ghana feel; the laws of Ghana criminalize homosexuality. The customs, many religions, and the culture frown upon it.

I can not judge them, for on the day of judgment we will ALL be judged.
Just because I may not fully understand what they go through doesn’t mean that they do not deserve basic human rights. I aim to be more understanding of their plight. I think that more dialogue has to continue on the matter.

(I see many comments online that equate them to rapists and pedophiles. Well…. predators are not bound by sexuality).

However, members of the LGBT community in Ghana continue to plead with the government for their right to mingle freely among people. Many have shared their thoughts on the issue both positive and negative.
