Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa
The Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) who served in the first term of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in the Volta Region have declared support for the re-appointment of Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa as Volta Regional Minister.
This was contained in a statement issued by the MDCEs on Monday, January 25, 2021; the same day, members of the NPP in the Volta region staged a mammoth demonstration against the nomination of the Regional Minister-Designate.
The MDCEs who used the opportunity to congratulate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on his successful inauguration and swearing in, also welcomed the nomination of Dr. Yao Letsa as a good news that met their expectation.
They described Dr. Letsa as a party steward of many years standing who has worked diligently and won the admiration of many people from all walks of life in the region and even out of the region. More so, his leadership ushered in massive developmental projects across all districts of the region, according to them.
That notwithstanding they acknowledged the agitations and concerns of a section of the population in the region and for that matter the NPP party.
They pleaded with the agitators to rescind their intention to undertake series of demonstrations to drive home their grievances while leadership work to address their concerns behind the scenes.
They noted that in as much as it may be their right to demonstrate as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution, “We must also not forget the fact that we are not in normal times. The second wave of Covid-19 which is even killing faster than the first wave is on the rise in the country and Volta Region has not been spared either.”
Hence, it may not be prudent to be massing up to do demonstrations, but rather “dialogue will be the best option, and we encourage all of us to prefer this medium to the demonstrations.”
They asserted that the appointment of the Regional Minister which is the preserve of His Excellency the President must be supported by all. More so, “We should have confidence in the leadership of our party and government to resolve any concerns,” they appealed.
They also promised to engage leadership to have lasting solutions to the challenges faced by the region and we are confident amicable resolution of all conflicts will be attained sooner than later through effective dialogue and consultations.
