Plateau State University

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of Plateau State University has embarked on an indefinite strike.

The union stated that it is embarking on the industrial over the nonchalant attitude of the state government to address some problems confronting the Institution.

The Chairman of ASUU in the institution, Dr Bentse Pamson, disclosed this to newsmen.

He stated that the decision was arrived at by their members to go on strike during an emergency congress held in Jos Saturday.

Pamson said, “We have just held our congress where our members unanimously agreed to proceed on strike immediately. We have already secured the approval of NEC to embark on local strike action at Plateau State University if the state government fails to meet our demands.”

He said the action of the union bordered on poor infrastructural development in the University.

He added that 90 per cent of the ongoing structures in the school were constructed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).

He said other reasons behind the strike include insecurity of students and arrears of earned allowance for members.

He explained that the union had been pressing for these demands for the past three years, but nothing had been done to address them, hence the justification for the industrial action.
