On Thursday, July 16, 2020, Ghanaian actor Emil Wood reignited his familiar theory which he holds on to religiously by stating that the Bible is fake and riddled with fairy tales. He reiterated that the Bible is not the word of God as it has been purported for years.

In a studio interview with entertainment journalist Halifax Ansah Addo, the actor who rose to prominence in the Afia Schwarzenegger TV series said unequivocally that the Bible was brought to us by the slave masters to manipulate the brains of the blacks which largely aided them in stealing our natural and human resources.

He grounded his argument on some of the disturbing accounts in the Bible such as God ordering the killings of babies and bringing down plagues on humans, amongst other atrocities God committed which makes it difficult for him to believe if a so-called loving God will actually go to that extent.

We have be made to believe God is loving, faithful and just but the gloomy perception about God that makes him despicable in the eyes to non-Christians and unbelievers are contained in the Bible, his inspired words. The old testament of the Bible for instance paints gruesome murders God himself masterminded and carried out without any shred of mercy, contrary to his famous attributes. Take a close look at the following;

1. The Flood (Genesis 6-8)

2. The cities of the plain, including Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18-19)

3. The Egyptian firstborn sons during the Passover (Exodus 11-12)

4. The Canaanites under Moses and Joshua (Numbers 21:2-3; Deuteronomy 20:17; Joshua 6:17, 21)

5. The Amalekites annihilated by Saul (1 Samuel 15). The inevitable question people continue to wrap their heads around without any success is a why a loving God who has the interest of his children at heart perpetuate such heinous atrocities?

In truth, the Old Testament portrays God as angry, vindictive, and ruthless while the New Testament defines him as loving, patient, and forgiving. Even for people who are convinced that the Bible is true and represents God’s revelation of himself, these accounts can be deeply troubling, especially when one thinks about the death of innocent children and women.

Notwithstanding whatever triggered God to visit mayhem to those who offended him, the fact still remains he’s not loving as he says he’s, per his actions as recorded by the Old Testament. Well as a writer, I’m not taking sides, I’m merely bringing to the fore the facts that support the main reason why some people feel worshiping a ruthless God is a waste of time and consolidating the belief system of atheists and of course why the Bible is fake.

In connection with this subject, a Gallup poll conducted in America showed that over 30% of Americans believe that the Bible is the word of God and its teachings should be taken literally. Gallup identified an additional 25% of Americans who consider the Bible as inspired by God but think some verses should be interpreted symbolically rather than literally. Gallup says many other people while having doubts about whether the entire Bible is the word of God, still considers the book to be a source of moral truths and regard its teachings as deserving great respect.

Although the Bible contains other aspects that instill moral values into humans, the general consensus when lumped into perspective shows it is not a reliable guidebook that humans can fall on to achieve happiness and well-being. Instead, it inhibits reasonable thinking which in effect retards progress.

The numerous contradictions it contains also makes matters worst. In general, if two statements are contradictory, at least one of them is false. The biblical contradictions therefore prove that the book has many false statements and is not infallible.

Let’s take a look at just few examples:

Genesis chapter 1 lists six days of creation but guess what, chapter 2 goes contrary: “day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.” Genesis 1:2-3 claims that God created light and divided it from darkness on the first day; but Genesis 1:14-19 tells us the sun, moon, and stars weren’t made until the fourth day.

Chapter 1 says that the fruit trees were created before the man, while chapter 2 indicates they were made after him. Genesis 1:20 says the fowl were created out of the waters; Genesis 2:19 alleges they were formed from the ground.

In Genesis 6:19-22, God ordered Noah to bring “of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort . . . into the ark.” Nevertheless, Genesis 7:2-3 relates that the Lord ordered Noah to take into the ark the clean beasts and the birds by sevens, and only the unclean beasts by twos.

Genesis 8:4 reports that, as the waters of the flood receded, Noah’s ark rested on the mountains of Ararat in the seventh month. The very next verse, however, says the mountaintops could not be seen until the tenth month.

Genesis 8:13 describes the earth as being dry on the first day of the first month. But Genesis 8:14 informs us the earth was not dry until the twenty-seventh day of the second month.

As a matter of fact, there are other numerous reasons why a lot of people including Emil Wood won’t take the Bible seriously as a book truly inspired by God. Most of the things it contained are not consistent with modernity and the part that promises everlasting life to those who obey his rules and ascribe hell as punishment for the skeptics and wrongdoers is actually the last straw that strengthens their belief.
