Scores of traders have been attacked by suspected armed robbers on the Begoro to Dedeso road in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region.

The traders were returning from the Begoro market to Mpeamu and Dedeso Communities.

The incidence occurred Friday evening.

About six vehicles and eight motorcycles transporting the traders were involved in the attack.

One of the victims told Starr News the robbers beat and robbed them off their mobile phones and unspecified amounts of monies at gunpoint.

Some of the passengers sustained minor injuries in the process.

The incident was reported to the Abooso and Dedeso police for investigation.

The notorious robbery gang have been terrorising residents for many years in the area.

Traders and mourners are mostly their targets. Some of victims were shot dead while others sustained injuries in their previous attacks.

In September 2019 for instance, the six-member robbery gang shot dead a driver who was attending a funeral with his family members in a private car.

In March this year, the Begoro District Police Command DSP Emmanuel Darkwah Owiredu called on residents to collaborate with Police to arrest the notorious robbery gang terrorising residents.

“We have now initiated a plan whereby the police escort market women to their destinations, both to and fro to give them the needed protection they deserve from these robbers terrorizing them but this is not sustainable looking at the limited resources and staff so help as fish them out and deal with them according to the law”.
