Chief Executive Officer of Tema Youth FC, Wilfred Kwaku Osei wants football clubs in Ghana to learn how to build financial strength to cater for unexpected future disruptions like the CoronaVirus pandemic.

Local Clubs have been hardly hit by the CoronaVirus pandemic and sought some financial help from government through the Ghana Football Association and the Ghana League Clubs Association.

However, Government did not capture the clubs in the list of beneficiaries for its COVID-19 stimulus package much to the disappointment of the football fraternity.

Going forward, Wilfred Kwaku Osei says the situation facing Ghanaian clubs calls for a rethink on to properly run football in the country in the future.

He told Happy FM, “Reserves are created to meet such contingencies or unexpected circumstances”.

“We find ourselves in a force majeure situation where nobody could have predicted COVID-19 and how it’s going to impact on football”.

“The moment your primary business is shut, all you can do is to delve into your reserves”.

“Strategically if any club in Ghana built a reserve, so that in times like this, we could have fallen on the reserves to support businesses. That is how businesses are structured” he concluded.
