Chief Executive Officer of Bechem United Professor Nana Kwasi Darling has kicked against calls for the Ghana Premier League to resume behind closed door, saying it will affect clubs finances.

The Ghana Football Association has suspended local football activities since mid-March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The situation is no different from leagues worldwide which had to be put on hold as the virus situation worsened.

However, league across the world are working out a return to playing with Germany already starting the Bundesliga 2 weeks ago as they play behind closed doors.

With pressure mounting on the GFA to take a decision, there has been serious consideration given to playing behind closed doors to allow for the 2019-20 season to continue.

But Nana Darling in an interview with Kweku Sarpong Sarkodie of Bryt FM has opposed such an option.

“Seriously I don’t think playing behind closed doors will help us. I don’t agree with such calls. Our supporters plays key role in match days and even quite apart from that, when we are playing behind closed doors how are we going to get money for stadium maintenance fees, transportation and others” he said.

“We can’t compare ourselves to that of Germany because they are far ahead of us. So I don’t think we should even think about playing behind closed doors”

“What we should think about is that, the Convid-19 has come to stay with us and so, how many times or years can we play behind closed doors. We just have to adhere to the safety protocols and also fine a mechanism to check fans during match days so we can play the league”
