General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said his party will win the upcoming elections if the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner.

He said the reason why the Electoral Commission (EC) is bent on compiling a new voter’s register is mainly to rig the election as many surveys including those conducted by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clearly predicts the NDC is winning the December 7, elections.

He said, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu’s comments that the NDC is resisting the Electoral Commission’s call for a new voters’ register because they cannot win any elections with a new register is a clear indication that the new register is a mechanism for rigging. Johnson Asiedu Nketia who was speaking on Pan African TV said the NDC will adopt every legitimate means to resist the compilation of the new voters’ register.

“We are correcting these rigging materials. I can tell you that, today if there are any free and fair election in the country the NDC will be in power and NPP itself has conducted surveys that are giving them results they don’t want to see. And so, that is why they have come to the conclusion that the only way to win the election is to rig. Fortunately no less a person than the majority leader had the occasion to talk about this openly and said that, if they change the register the NDC will never win elections in this country.

So, why is it that a register with which each of the major parties has lost and won elections and now you can conclude that if you throw that register away and you bring another one as for that one it is NPP alone that will win elections? What does it mean? It means that the register is a mechanism for rigging. That is what it means.” He said.

Meanwhile, the EC says it will definitely compile a new Voters’ Register despite calls for them to reconsider due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Head of Public Affairs at the Commission, Madam Sylvia Annor, says nothing will stop the EC from compiling a new voters’ register.

She allayed the fears of Ghanaians who are thinking of staying away from the registration centres, saying only 25 persons will be allowed at a centre at a time.
