GPL players to undergo compulsory Covid-19 test

Ghana Premier League (GPL) players will undergo a mandatory coronavirus test according to the President of the Ghana Football Association.

Ghana Football Association President, Kurt Edwin Simon Okraku, together with Ghana FA Medical Team led by Dr Adam Baba, and some management of the FA met the Government Medical Advising Team headed by Dr Nsiah Asare on last Thursday to deliberate on the future of the Sporting Activities within the country.

Mr Kurt E. S Okraku, addressing the government delegation to the meeting at the Accra Sports Stadium on the resumption of sporting activities amid COVID-19 pandemic, appealed to the government to allow clubs to resume training in groups.

He suggested training could be done in groups like five or four which falls within the government directives on social distancing and also called on the leagues to resume behind closed doors. That is, according to Prof. Peter Twumasi on Kumasi Fm.

”GFA president in his address to the delegation from the presidency on the resumption of sports amid Covid-19 yesterday suggested to government to allow clubs resume training in groups of five or four as part of steps to resume the league behind closed doors.

’He further stressed playing the games behind closed doors will help avoid flouting social distancing rules by showing the games live on TV”.

Professor Peter Twumasi further revealed that the Ghana Football Association president assured the government delegation that players will undergo a mandatory COVID-19 test before every league match ensure that the health of the players is guaranteed and to also help fight the spread of the virus.

”The GFA president briefing the team on how football can resume revealed players will go through mandatory Covid-19 text before every league match,” he added.

Both the Ghana Men’s and Women’s Premier League together with other sporting activities are counting on the government decides whether to resume or remain suspended.
