Declare ‘state of emergency’ in the fight against Coronavirus

The 2020 presidential candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, has advised President Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency declare a state of emergency in Ghana in the fight against the Coronavirus pandemic.

The vociferous political leader, believes that state of emergency, if declared by the president, would become the only serious measure to stop some recalcitrant Ghanaian citizens from defying the partial lock down and social distancing directives.

Speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, Akwasi Addai Odike, expressed extreme worry about the some stubborn people in the country have disobeyed president Akufo-Addo’s ban on social gathering among many others.

”I want the president to declare a state of emergency as quickly as possible in the fight against the deadly pandemic,””Declaring state of emergency is the only way government could deal perfecting with people who are recalcitrant moving around and always flouting government’s directives.

Commenting further on government’s distribution of foods for the vulnerable, he said authorities in the helm of affairs have failed woefully.However, he has urged them to map up a new strategy by involving Assembly members and opinion leaders in various communities to help distribute the foods equitably.

Ghana has currently recorded 566 cases of the Covid-19 as at April 14, 2020.
