10 Foreigners Test Positive for Covid-19 In Tamale

Tamale, the Northern regional capital, has recorded 10 covid-19 cases at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The patients who tested positive are eight (8) Guineans and two (2) from Burkina Faso.
 
The patients traveled from Burkina Faso and Togo respectively through unapproved routes to Ghana.

They then lodged at a hotel (name withheld ) in Tamale for a couple of days before two of them were picked following a tip-off by residents.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed who confirmed the incident to DAILY GUIDE, said the 10 foreigners were put under mandatory quarantine in Tamale under the direction of the Regional Security Committee for 14 days.

According to him , samples of the patients were sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the results came back positive on the 11th day of their quarantine.

He indicated that the staff of the hotel in Tamale have been quarantined for further checks to ascertain if they are infected with the virus.

Mr. Saeed however, revealed that the 10 foreigners will be repatriated to their respective counties after treatment.

The minister assured that public to remain calm and continue their normal daily duties.

He disclosed that the borders in the north are being patrolled by the military and other security agencies

Meanwhile, 40 health workers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital who got in contact with the foreigners have been put on mandatory quarantine.
