Gameboy has relocated to the US state of Florida as he looks to put his career back on track
The manager of former International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion, Richard Commey, Michael Amoo-Bediako, has ruled out a possible fight with Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe at the moment as his boxer looks to make a return to the ring by April.
Mr Amoo-Bediako told the Graphic Sports that Commey’s team was not interested in a non-title fight with his compatriot but gave an assurance that the former world champion would make his return as scheduled.
Commey, who lost his IBF title to Teofimo Lopez last December, is back in the United States to commence preparation for his return against an unnamed opponent, as the Ghanaian works his way back to the top in the hope of securing a world title shot by close of year.
The 32-year-old Commey could be in line to face Tagoe as both boxers are rated in the top 13 by the sanctioning body. Commey dropped to 10th position in the ratings after his title loss, while his compatriot maintained his sixth place.
Tagoe, a former International Boxing?Organisation (IBO) lightweight, has continuously thrown a challenge to Commey over a possible showdown, but the former IBF has always turned town the bait.
Mr Amoo-Bediako of Streetwise Management explained to the Graphic Sports that he was exploiting all possibilities to get his Commey back into world title contention but refused to rule out a possible fight between the two rated Ghanaians in future.
“We are still in negotiations to get Commey return to the ring by April but we are not going to fight Gameboy for now because there are so many other fighters in the division.
“The team is looking at all possibilities and the best way to get Richard Commey back to a world title shot as we chase a two-time champion status,” he said.
