Three times Grammy-Award winner Angelique Kidjo has won the Grammy Award for the fourth time after her album ‘Celia’ was adjudged winner beating four other competitors including Nigerian Afrobeat star Burna Boy.
The Best World
Album category recognizes performers outside the United States who showcase
non-European, indigenous influences in their body of work. The award was first
handed out in 1992 to Mickey Hart.
Other artistes who did
not make it in the category at the ceremony at Staples Centre in Los Angeles
are Gece — Altin Gün, What Heat — Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By
Jules Buckley and Fanm D’ayiti — Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet.
It is on record that Burna Boy just like other singers such as Femi Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Seun Kuti from Nigerian have failed to clinch the award after bagging a nomination.
This was the first time Burna Boy was nominated
in the greatest music award ceremony.
