Seidu Salifu sustained serious leg injurySeidu Salifu sustained serious leg injury

A robbery operation has been foiled by the police, with one of the suspected robbers severely suffering a gunshot in the right ankle, an incident which occurred on the Bole-Bamboi highway in the Savannah Region.

The purposeful but failed suspected armed robbers, wielding guns, tried to raid a moving vehicle carrying goods, The Chronicle understands.

The suspected robber, who was shot in the ankle by a police officer onboard the vehicle, was nabbed after he and two others attempted to rob the goods in a Mercedes Benz distribution van, with the registration number GX 5225 – 17, last Friday at 1:30 pm.

Driven by one Mr. Amoah Amponsah, the van was carrying assorted soft drinks, and escorted by Mr. Adjei Yaw Hayford and Stella Darsi, sales personnel. They were driving from Banda Nkwanta to Tinga on the Bole-Bamboi highway.

Information available to The Chronicle from the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service indicates that on reaching a section of the road, between Banda Nkwanta and Nouryiri community, three masked armed men emerged from the bush and started firing in an attempt to rob the said distribution van.

Little did they know that there was an armed police officer escorting the team.

As the suspected robbers fired their guns at Mr. Amponsah and his team, the police officer on board (name withheld) returned fire and hit the right ankle of one of them.

The shot made it extremely difficult for the suspected robber, who later gave his name as Seidu Salifu, a 25-year-old Fulani herdsman at Bole, to escape.

Seidu Salifu was immediately arrested by the brave police officer, but his accomplices managed to escape. Reports indicate they might have equally suffered gunshot wounds.

The suspect, Seidu Salifu, was searched and the police found one locally manufactured single barrel shot gun, one live cartridge, a face mask, one Techno mobile phone, and an amount of GH¢130 in his pocket.

Later, during interrogations, he mentioned one Sumaila and Elliasu, all of Bole, as his accomplices.

Meanwhile he has been admitted at the Bole District Hospital for treatment. The police confirmed to this paper that the case was under investigation.
