The Western North Regional Directorate of the National Commission for<br \/>\nCivic Education has inaugurated and sworn in a forty member Regional Inter<br \/>\nParty Dialogue Committee (IPDC) to handle electoral related issues before,<br \/>\nduring and after the December general elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The Western North<br \/>\nRegional Director of NCCE, Mr. Sam Awudu Dramani noted that key indicator of<br \/>\ndemocracy and good governance was credible and peaceful elections.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">He said though Ghana<br \/>\nhad chalked some enviable feats like successful conduct of Presidential and<br \/>\nParliamentary Elections, Peaceful transition and transfer of political power<br \/>\nfrom a ruling Party to an Opposition Party , spots of violence could not be<br \/>\ntaken for granted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">As a result of<br \/>\nGhana\u2019s record, there was the need to deepen and consolidate the democratic<br \/>\ntenets and credentials. &#8220;Ghana\u2019s situation therefore provides enough<br \/>\njustification for the formation of Inter-Party Dialogue Committees (IPDCs) that<br \/>\nwill act as a buffer zone in the constituencies to stem the tide of unnecessary<br \/>\nsuspicions and anxiety among political parties especially, now that activities<br \/>\nof political party vigilantes seemed to have gained grounds&#8221;.he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">A three member<br \/>\nexecutive was elected to steer the affairs of the Committee with ACP Akrasi<br \/>\nMensah (Deputy Regional Commander of Police) as the Chairman, Mr. Laud Swanzy<br \/>\n(Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Director of NCCE) \u2013 Secretary and Mr. Clement Amoako<br \/>\nrepresenting the CSO\u2019s\u00a0 as the Organizer<br \/>\nfor the Committee. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The objective of the<br \/>\nIPDC is to focus attention on mediation and resolution of petty conflicts by<br \/>\nmonitoring the enforcement of the electoral rules and regulations, promoting<br \/>\npeaceful security situations, identifying issues that have the potential to<br \/>\ntrigger electoral conflict, and also to promote information sharing to avoid<br \/>\nrumour-mongering. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">The IPDC would also<br \/>\npromote discourse to mitigate\u00a0<br \/>\nmisinformation and misrepresentation amongst political parties and key<br \/>\nstakeholders and provide opportunity for all parties to air their concerns and<br \/>\nproblems.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Other objectives of<br \/>\nthe Committee are: To organize interactive Inter-Party fora at the district,<br \/>\nconstituency and ward\/zonal levels,\u00a0<br \/>\ninitiate and sustain dialogue for stakeholders in the resolution of<br \/>\nconflict that has the potential to affect the upcoming elections and deepen<br \/>\ncollaboration between the NCCE, EC, Political Parties, the Youth, Security<br \/>\nAgencies, District Assemblies, Chiefs, Traditional Authorities, Civil Society<br \/>\nand Community Leaders in the promotion of non-violence.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">Mr Kingsley Aboagye<br \/>\nGyedu, Western North Regional Minister who inaugurated the committee implored<br \/>\nthe executives and members to work diligently to ensure that the December<br \/>\nGeneral Election was violence free especially in the Western North Region.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\" style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:&quot;Tahoma&quot;,&quot;sans-serif&quot;\">GNA<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Mildred Siabi-Mensah, GNA Sefwi-Wiawso (WN) Jan. 9 GNA &#8211;
